Forest Kindergartens have been operating in Nordic Countries for over 50 year. A Forest or Bush Kindy is held exclusively outdoors. Whatever the Weather, children are encouraged to take the lead in playing, exploring and learning in the natural environment. Bush Kindy is spreading across Australia, particularly in the Southern States in response to growing research which documents the benefits of outdoor play, particularly in nature.
Strathpine Community Kindergarten commenced a Bush Kindy group in 2017. This group was so well received, we have extended the program to be included in a second bush kindy group.
The Bush Kindy excursion operates in term 2 and 3 only. It is a regular excursion to a bush location one day a week.
Three teaching staff plus one parent volunteer will attend to assist the children explore, be creative and learn about the natural environment.
Our staff have undergone specialised training to better inform them on all aspects of the bush.
